Bio:

Shimelis Tilahun is a telecommunications professional with over 15 years of experience in fiber optics installation, outside plant engineering, and backbone network operations.

I currently serves as the Backbone Fiber Operation Manager at Ethio telecom, where I oversees the nationwide backbone network, manages large-scale restoration activities, leads preventive maintenance programs, and ensures adherence to international OSP safety and reliability standards.

I began My career as a field technician and advanced through multiple technical and managerial roles, gaining extensive expertise in fiber cable installation, splicing, OTDR testing, route design, and complex fault resolution. My leadership has contributed significantly to Ethiopia’s national broadband expansion and modernization efforts.

In addition to his technical background, I am a Certified Manager (CM®) through the Institute of Certified Professional Managers (ICPM) at James Madison University (USA). This global qualification strengthens his ability to lead teams, manage complex projects, and drive operational excellence.

Committed to capacity building and professional development, Shimelis actively trains, mentors, and empowers fiber technicians across Ethiopia and the region. curently I am preparing book with title COPLETE OSP ENGINEERING GUIDE FOR TELECOM TECHNICIAN This book represents my dedication to creating a practical, standards-based reference for the next generation of telecom technicians
